What is Botox?
Botulinumtoxin A, or BOTOX Cosmetic, is a purified protein known cosmetically as the wonder product for reducing or “erasing” frown lines and deep grooves between the eyebrows. By immobilizing the responsible muscle via a few tiny injections, Botox Cosmetic causes the frown to be eased, reduced greatly or even “erased” for up to 4 months. Results may vary from one person to another.
The procedure is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require anesthesia, can be done in a few minutes, consists of a few tiny injections and has no down time.
What are the side effects of Botox?
The most common side effect is mild bruising. If you have any other symptoms you should call the office immediately. The desired effect may take 7 days to be noted. Usually the results last up to four months.
Botulinum Toxin A is made by several companies, but the best known is BOTOX Cosmetic, or Botulinumtoxin A. Other botulinum toxin products include Xeomin (incobotulinum toxin A), Dysport (abobotulinum toxin A), and Myobloc (rimabotulinum toxin B). If you have had an allergic reaction with any one of these, then you should not use any of the others. More information may be obtained at our office.

As we age, hyaluronic acid slowly dissipates from the skin – fine lines, wrinkles and a less youthful look develop. Problem areas include deeper lines around the nose and mouth, especially lateral to the nose, fine vertical lip lines, and marionette lines radiating from the corner of the mouth. These lines may make a person appear sad when they are not.
Dermal fillers, or injectable gels such as Juvederm and Belotero, can add missing volume with hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring compound in the human body including the skin. A small fine needle is used to inject the dermal filler under the skin to plump up the deeper folds, smooth out the fine lines, and restore a more youthful look. The effects may be dramatic and usually last six to nine months.
